Statement of Faith

Lighthouse Baptist Church Articles of Faith

  1. We believe in the verbal inspiration, inerrancy, and authority of the Scriptures (II Tim. 3:36, II Peter 1:20-21, Psalm 138:2, Matt. 24:35).  We believe that the Authorized King James Version of the Bible is the Holy written Word of God in the English language and is the only English version of the Bible that Lighthouse Baptist Church of Juneau, Alaska will use to teach and preach.
  2. We believe God is a Person, eternally existing as a Trinity in unity – Father, Son, Holy Spirit (Deut. 6:4, Matt. 28:19, I Cor. 8:6, Gen. 1:26, John 10:30, John 4:24).
  3. We believe in the deity, virgin birth, and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ; He is eternally existing; He became a man totally apart from sin; and He is true God and true man (Luke 1:30-35, John 1:1-15, Phil. 2:5-8, Col. 1:15, Matt. 1:21-23, I John 5:20).
  4. We believe the Holy Spirit is a divine Person; equal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same nature; He was active in the creation; in relation to the unbelieving world He restrains the Evil One until God’s purpose is fulfilled; that He convicts of sin, of judgment, and righteousness; He bears witness to the Truth of the Gospel in preaching and testimony; He is the agent in the New Birth; He seals, endues, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies, and helps the believer (John 14:16-17, Gen. 1:1-3, John 16:8-11, John 3:5-6, Eph. 1:13-14, II Thess. 2:7, Acts 5:30-32, I Peter 1:2, Rom. 8:16, Rom. 8:26-27).
  5. We believe man was created in the image of God, but by voluntary transgression fell from his sinless state, in consequence of which, all mankind are now sinners by choice and are therefore under just condemnation (Gen. 1:26-27, Gen. 3:1-6, Rom. 5:12, Rom. 3:10-19, Eph. 2:1, Rom. 1:18, 20, 28, Gal. 3:22).
  6. We believe salvation is by grace, plus nothing and minus nothing.  The conditions to salvation are repentance and faith.  This faith is in the substitutionary death of the Lord Jesus Christ:  for our sins He died and was resurrected for our justification (I Peter 3:18, I Cor. 15:1-4, Acts 4:12, Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 1:16, John 1:12, John 3:16-18).
  7. We believe salvation is a free gift of God and it can in no way be brought about by the works of man (John 3:16, Eph. 2:8-9, Titus 3:5).
  8. We believe every true believer, born of the Spirit, can have full assurance of salvation and is eternally secure in Christ (John 3:5-6, I John 5:12-13, John 10:28-29).
  9. We believe the church is a congregation of baptized believers associated by a covenant of faith and fellowship, of the gospel; observing the ordinances of Christ (baptism and the Lord’s Supper); governed by His laws; and exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His word.  The officers of the local church are pastors and deacons, whose qualifications and duties are defined in the Scriptures (I Tim. 3:1-3, Titus 1:6-9).  We believe the mission of the church is found in the Great Commission:  to win the lost of the world, to make disciples of them, to teach and train.  We believe the church has the right to self-government (Acts 2:41-42, I Cor. 11:2, Acts 6:5-6, I Tim. 3:1-13, Matt. 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8).
  10. We believe in the everlasting conscious blessedness of the saved (heaven) and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost (hell).  We believe these to be literal places; heaven is literal bliss, and hell is literal fire and torment (Matt. 5:22, Luke 16:23, Mark 9:43-44, Rev. 20:10-15, Rev. 21-22, John 3:16).
  11. We believe in the visible, personal, premillennial, and pretribulational return of the Lord Jesus Christ for believers.  We believe this return of the Lord is imminent, which is the blessed hope of the saved, and will be followed by the Tribulation followed by the Second Coming of Christ, to rule and reign for one thousand years (I Thess. 1:10, I Thess. 4:13-18, I Thess. 5:1-10, Rev. 19:11-20:15, Matt. 24:29-42).
